Cats are carnivores
They must be fed foods high in animal protein content.
Always have plenty of fresh water available
Refill the water dish with fresh water daily.
Place your cat’s food in the dish at the same time every day
Allow your cat to eat "free choice" throughout the day. Follow the Feeding Guidelines and place the appropriate amount of food in the cat’s dish. Let your cat graze throughout the day which is a cat’s natural way to eat.
If you feed your cat canned food, make sure you throw it away after two hours
It can go rancid if you leave it out too long..
Don’t switch brands
Once you find a brand of food your cat likes, stick with it. You’ll find there are many cat foods sold at supermarkets and club stores. Typically, these brands are less energy-dense and less digestible, which means your cat and kitten has to eat more, leading to more stools, more litter box odor higher costs. Frequent changes can contribute to issues such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Feed them super premium dry foods
MAX® CAT Food or NATURAL CHOICE® Cat Food in Regular or Indoor formulas are better excellent choices for your cat’s health overall. This alters the carefully balanced blend of ingredients in the food and can cause diarrhea, allergic reactions, or excessive weight gain.
Choose cat food brands that use high-quality sources of animal proteins like chicken meal
The Nutro Company has formulated MAX® CAT Indoor and NATURAL CHOICE® Indoor cat products. Each formula helps to help promote a lustrous coat and supple skin so less hair is swallowed during self-grooming. And, the NATURAL CHOICE® Indoor includes the FIBER CLEAN® System, a unique blend of dietary fiber helps move hair through the digestive tract and minimizes hairball formation in the stomach.
Look for cat foods that contain sunflower oil, soybean oil or poultry fat
These are good sources of essential fatty acids, such as linoleic acid, which give your cat a soft, shiny coat.
Don't “improve” a kitten or cat food with table scraps or leftovers
This alters the carefully balanced blend of ingredients in the food and can cause diarrhea, allergic reactions, or excessive weight gain.
Don't use any off-the-shelf additives unless your vet tells you to
A properly formulated kitten or cat food will provide all the vitamins, minerals and fatty acids that any cat needs. Adding ingredients can actually be harmful.
If necessary, use cat food especially formulated for hairballs
The Nutro Company has formulated MAX® CAT Indoor and NATURAL CHOICE® Indoor cat products. Each formula helps promote a lustrous coat and supple skin so less hair is swallowed during self-grooming. And, the FIBER CLEAN® System, a unique blend of dietary fiber helps move hair through the digestive tract and minimizes hairball formation in the stomach.
Indoor cats have special nutritional needs
Indoor temperature, lighting and reduced activity require different nutrition levels. MAX® CAT Indoor and NATURAL CHOICE® Indoor cat formulas offer a special blend of vitamins, minerals and nutrients to meet those needs – and are formulated to help limit common problems such as unhealthy weight gain or hairballs.
Make sure you are feeding your cat food for their correct life stage
When your cat turns seven years old, it will be time to switch to MAX® CAT Senior or NATURAL CHOICE® Senior cat food. These unique formulas provide optimum nutrition for senior cats, to help ensure a long and healthy life.
For Kittens Only:
Kittens need kitten food, not adult cat food
To sustain healthy growth, kittens require certain amounts of protein and fat, and a higher level of vitamins and minerals than adult cats require. That's why high-quality kitten foods like MAX® CAT Kitten and NATURAL CHOICE® Kitten food in Regular and Indoor formulas are ideal. NUTRO® kitten foods are also sized to fit a kitten's small mouth.
When a kitten has been weaned, feed them gruel
Made of dry kitten food and warm water. Steadily reduce the water content until the food is totally dry, usually by the age of eight weeks. Always follow the feeding guidelines, so you know how much food your kitten should eat every day.
For kittens three-months or older, reduce their feeding frequency
At this age you just need to feed them three times a day. At six months, reduce to twice a day.
