Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in new formula We swapped to nutro max a year or so ago due to the better quality ingredients and my dogs loved the food. However, the last bag we purchased, not only was less food for the same amount of money(25lbs instead of 30lbs), but the pieces looked completely different and the dogs didn't seem as enthusiastic. I was curious about the change in appearance so I checked the ingredients and was not happy about what I found. The lamb and beef formulas previously had lamb meal and beef meal respectively as the first ingredient and now it is chicken meal in both with the lamb and beef being quite a bit further down in the list. If I wanted that much chicken in their food, I would buy the chicken formula. I am returning the second bad I bought and going back to our old food with better ingredients and a better price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A treat for Buddy We were really excited about trying the Nutro Max Adult Recipe with Lamb, I really liked that it was Pasture Fed Lamb, with No chicken by-product meal, No corn, wheat or soy proteins and is all natural and made in the USA.I opened the box and took out the bag, was pleasantly surprised at how big it was. I opened up the bag and as I was pulling out a nice big bowl, Buddy was jumping up and down, because he knew it was for him. When I placed it down on the floor, Buddy ran right over to it and started to sniff at the bowl. He would take out one piece and take it over to his bed and eat it. (He does that when we give him his treats) After taking about 3-4 pieces out and eating them in his bed, he stood there and started eating the rest right out of the bowl, and in no time his bowl was empty. I guess he really liked it!So for a few days I would mix the Nutro Max with his Purina Little Bites, and he would pick out the Nutro Max and eat that 1st. So by the 3rd day, his bowl was mostly Nutro Max and he was eating that only. After about the 2nd week of eating nothing but Nutro Max, Buddy is no longer that excited about his food. I placed a bowl down and it sat all day long, he would not eat it. I threw that bowl out and placed another one down in the evening time and it was still there, un-touched in the morning. I was not sure why he was not eating, so I got a can of Pedigree's country stew beef canned food and I mixed it with the dry (just to get him to eat). He has since gone back to the Purina Little Bites. Buddy and I really appreciated the opportunity to try this new food, complimentary for being a Bzzagent, but I don't think I will be buying any in the near future. Rated 3 out of 5 by from He'll eat it . . . with coaxing I have quite a picky dog. I think the only reason he eats at all is because the cats threaten to eat his food if he doesn't, and he'd rather die than let that indignity happen. I've been trying to find a food that he would eat without canned food added to it and would eat consistently. This food met one of those qualifications. The food itself is rather small. About a cm in diameter, so it would be easy for a smaller dog to eat. It has an unobtrusive but kind of boring smell to me, but Jack seemed to like it as he immediately investigated the box and the bag inside when the food came in the mail. The first day he was willing to eat some plain. I was hopefully this would continue, but the novelty wore off, and within a day or two, he would come investigate the dish and wander off without eating. This is not unusual for him. I added canned food, and he has been eating it pretty much consistently ever since. My dog had no issues transitioning. No GI upset of any kind. He rarely does though. I'm satisfied with this outcome, since there are some foods I've gotten that even canned food will not entice him to eat. All in all it seems like a good food but doesn't quite fit my needs. The search continues. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Dog loved it!!! We were having problems with my dog she wasn't happy with the different food. Every 2 weeks she would stop eating the dry food so we kept switching them. Surprisingly I got invited to try this brand nutro wich I had never use before. And as soon we pored some of it Bayley (Dog) came running she started sniffing the food and started eating right away we were shocked she ate it all and into today has bin more than weeks she still eating like if it was day one she loved it and just knowing that she is eating healthydog food is even great thank you so much frim now and on only Nitro for her. This is my honest opinion [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A healthy upgrade for our dog We have been using Nutro Max Pasture Fed Lamb for our dog for approximately one month. This was a nice upgrade from the brand we were using.First, the bits of food may be some what small for our hound/pit mix, but he doesn't seem to mind.My initial reaction on opening the bag was that it did not have that "dog food" smell that so many have. The "dog food" smell I'm referring to is not a bad smell per say, however this food didn't smell like a lot of other dog food.It also has some healthy fats/oils in it and you can tell because although the pieces are dry and crunchy, they do have a bit of oil on them that I noticed when I hand-scooped some into the big guy's dish.My next observation was that the dog had zero flatulence. None. This was not only surprising because it was a food switch, but the dog has gas all the time regardless. We have used a number of healthy supplements, additives, oils etc. and the dog has always had some amount of gas. On this food he has none! Our dog also stopped biting at his feet. After trying out the allergy route, we assumed it may have been a habit, but on this food after just a couple weeks he stopped chewing his feet altogether. My final observation was that he seems to eat less of this food than his previous brand. This seemed a little strange to me, and at first I wrote it off as a fluke. He loves the food, eats quickly at dinner time and continues too eat less than the amount he was eating of the old brand. After watching him and finding that he's healthy, active and totally normal (apart from no gas!!) is that he's getting what he needs out of a smaller amount. I'm no scientist, and am not a veterinarian, but my dog is happy and healthy, and may very well be finally on a food that really works for his system! We're really pleased with this food.In the photo, our former brand is on the left side of the bowl, and our new brand Nitro Max is on the right. We received a bag of Nutro Max Pasture Fed Lamb in exchange for our testing and honest review. We tested, and we honestly love this food for our dog! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the dogs loved it! I have 4 dogs (Jack Russell, 2 Rat Terriers, and a Chihuaua mix) I also have 4 foster dogs. (Jack Russell, Rat Terrier and 2 Chihuaua mix puppies). I have been feeding a dog food that had high ratings but haven't been happy. I was so glad to get this free bag for them to try. EVERY SINGLE DOG LOVED IT!!! They all picked this food over 2 different brands. Now that they've eaten it for a month they are looking great, shiny coats but they are acting like they feel great. I went out and bought a new bag because this is now our new food. I do wish it wasn't so expensive. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simply Awesome! Peaches, My Olde English Bulldogge, is a picky eater.I am very particular about what I feed her, reading the ingredients as if I were eating it myself.I was extremely pleased to see that MAX Natural Lamb Meal & Rice Recipe Adult DID NOT contain corn of any kind nor did it contain any soy protien.I was a little surprised to see that the main ingredient of the Lamb Meal & Rice recipe was chicken and that lamb didn't make an appearance until ingredient #7.She has never been overly excited about eating. I had just decided that she eats to live instead of living to eat.The day I brought the bag home, she wouldn't stop sniffing the bag.I placed the bag next to her regular food. When she saw me dig into MAX Natural Lamb & Rice Recipe to add to her scoop of regular food, she stood beside her dish waiting with anticipation. She somehow managed to fish out the MAX and glared at me for what was left in her bowl.By the end of the week she was enjoying a full bowl of the MAX Natural Lamb & Rice Recipe and now lets me know when suppertime is instead of waiting for me to decide.Another bonus is, since this in higher in protein and lower in filler, it is digested more completely which leaves smaller stools and less to pick up.I rate this 4/5 only because I am accustomed to seeing Lamb as the main ingredient when I purchase Lamb dog food rather than Chicken. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Isis gives it two ruffs up! Isis can be a very picky dog, so I was afraid that she would not eat it. When I opened up the box and read the ingredients I was so glad that is was so healthy. I gave her a test handful... and she didn't leave a bite. We are super happy with NUTRO MAX... and we are pretty sure that she is as well! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
